Design
Controllab helps companies with the design of their machines.
Insight
We help companies by analysing the dynamic behaviour of their machines during the design phase. We provide simulation models that offer insights into:
- performance: the machine’s performance in terms of accuracy, speed, throughput, etc.
- control: the stability, robustness and performance of the control system running the machine.
- safety: the machine’s ability to stay within operational ranges, brake to a standstill within bounds and its behavior during failures.
Stages
Our simulation models are used at every stage of a design:
- Assessment: testing the feasibility of a design, testing use cases, validating against standards and regulations.
- Early design: testing the performance of the design and design alternatives.
- Detailed design: validating and improving simulation models using test setups and measurement data, validating the design using these high-fidelity simulation models.
Examples
Below are some examples design objectives that we have worked on:
- Create a model of a railway bridge to to implement and verify new control strategies for its hydraulic cylinder.
- Create a model of a motion-compensated gangway and derive an error budget to determine the most effective design changes.
- Create a DC short circuit model to analyse the forces on the busbar.
- Develop a model of an offshore crane to investigate the optimal tag line controller.
- Create a virtual prototype of a wind tunnel robot to test its capabilities under dynamic wind loads.
