Platform stabilization of a floating wind turbine

Platform stabilization of a floating wind turbine

Can a wind turbine be kept efficient even if it is floating? The answer is yes! During his internship, Huub tried to investigate the most advanced strategies for controlling the blade pitch. He wanted to achieve two things. Firstly, he wanted to obtain a constant desired generated power. Secondly, he wanted to achieve a stable platform. If you do not control it, or if you use a naively controlled system, instability can arise by means of negatively-damped oscillations.

Combining our tools with his work, he could show the existence of a stable solution and expand our knowledge of this fast-growing and promising field. This is another successful application of our digital twin technology.
